Information - Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer the dream city in middle of a scorching Thar desert. The historic town lying atop the ancient trade routes that crossed the desert from both, wet and east, directions. Known more for the magnificient fort that dominates the town, spread out around it, Jaisalmer is a "must" in tourist destinations. On the fringes of western desert there are holiday options galore here. From Bikaner the rally moves to next night halt at Jaisalmer. The entire journey is on National Highway #15

Airport:
Jaisalmer is not open for commercial flights and nearest airport is at Jodhpur, about 200 kms away.
Railway: This is the terminal station for trains. There is connections from Delhi via Jodhpur on daily frequency.
Service: None of the auto brands have presence here. Though many service mechanics are available to attend to general repairs. Most are located in market after railway station to the south of the fort.
Spares: Spare are available for car makes that are generally used in the area. Maruti, M&M, Tata etc. For others the availability is not certain. Many garages can arrange the same from Jodhpur for delivery within one to two days.
Medical: Military Hospital offers full facilities. Maheshwari hospital and some private practitioners are also present.
General shopping
: Market around petrol pump on the round about of "Sam Road" offer most of essential shopping.
Hotels: Many comfortable hotels are available for all budgets. Stay in "havelli" is a unique experience for this region.
Communications: Full range of communication is available including internet cafe's.
ATM & Credit Cards: Many ATM's abound and most hotels accept credit cards. Other establishments also accept credit cards but not the petrol pump or the service shops.
